Press Review Millésime 1998

by Michel Smolarek for Guide des Sommeliers

Côte de Beaune white la Grande châtelaine

"A brightly yellow gold color. Expressive nose with aromas of ripe fruits (yellow peach) with woody notes and some spicy and buttered touch which are intensified with ventilation. The entry is supple. The palate is fat with a soft texture. Fresh and lemony end. Persistence of flavor.

A rare appellation in white. Domaine Chantal Lescure has well controlled the harmony of this wine. The freshness and the fineness must have seen each other coming. To discover urgently."

Côte de Beaune le Clos des Topes Bizot

" The Clos is in good company just above the Bressandes and the Clos de l’Ecu. A fairly deep ruby color with notes of liquorice and raspberry, this is a supple 98, but its tannin are still strong. Patience is undoubtedly needed to see it develop its potential, but it will worth the wait."

Volnay

" Built in a rude style with tannins and a great dense substance, this beautiful Volnay with clear aromas has to wait several years to be drunk. "
Revue des Vins de France. Octobre 2001. "Bourgogne La nouvelle Génération".****

" Crimson color with a great intensity of bleu lights. Discreet nose with a great complexity of fruit aromas (blackberry, raspberry) with spicy and noble woody notes. Engaging palate, supple, silky and fat tannins still steady. Spicy and fresh end. Remarkable length for this appellation.
A wine well structured, issued from low yields. A Domain in progression. To discover. "
Guide des sommeliers 2001 : 18/20

" This is the wine to choose for a meal after a day’s hunting, and it ahs the label for the occasion. The tannins are untamed and austere and far from soft. But the color is impeccable and the cherry jam flavors combine well with the oak from barrel aging. It has character and spirit. To be for a future celebration and not too soon."

Pommard les Vignots

" Intense purple color and a really woody taste. Coffee, smoky and toasty aromas combine together on the nose. On further consideration, we detected a handsome jammy flavor, a fresh attack that was straightforward and well structured. It is a wine to wait for."

Pommard 1er Cru les Bertins

Crimson color, with a hint of youthful. Breed nose, first closed then open quickly on aromas of black fruits (blackberry) and with some woody notes. A surprising structure in mouth and with fat tannins. Ends still austere. A maturing can smooth and melt the tannins.
A great wine which need to wait for in order to appreciate its harmony. To discover. "

Beaune 1er Cru les Chouacheux

"A brilliant ruby color with bleu lights. Fine and fresh nose with aromas of small red fruits increasing with the aeration (black currant). Supple mouth with tannins without astringency. Elegant end.
A wine which reveals itself in its fineness. A bottle of pleasure. To discover."
Guide des sommeliers 2001 : 16/20

Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots

" A brilliant ruby color with bleu lights. A really pure nose with fruity aromas of black currant, and some discreet woody notes. Supple and racey mouth, well support by tannins harmoniously married. The end with a great fineness and lingering finish.
A domain very recent which has impressed our sommelier. The low yields has allowed to extract a maximum of density and purity of fruit. A wine with a great harmony where the terroir dominate. An address which will find quickly its place through the Big, to discover urgently! "
